Matthew 25:35-36, “For I was hungry and you gave Me something to eat; I was thirsty and you gave Me Something to drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in; I was naked and you clothed Me; I was sick and you took care of Me; I was in prison and you visited Me.”
I’ve had a couple of my blog readers ask me how you know you finally understand yourself (see “seek first to Understand” July 16, 2011).
I can usually tell when people are comfortable in their own skin (i.e. they understand and are at peace with themselves):
1. When they quit taking everything too seriously (i.e. being able to laugh at our own weaknesses).
2. When they can encourage others and be happy for others in their victories and success.
3. When they keep commitments they make to themselves and others.
4. When they don’t try to control things that are not in their control.
5. Last but certainly not least…when their outward focus exceeds their inward focus. When our focus is less on ourselves and more on others (be careful co-dependents this doesn’t mean we don’t take care of ourselves) we are better able to make a difference in the world. Getting out of ourselves and getting into the world better enables us to live the gospel verses noted above from the book of Matthew.
