Monday Morning Leadership – Neutralize Your Weaknesses

Humility isn't denying your strengths. It's being honest about your weaknesses.

— Rich Warren —

I’ve never been one who enjoys paying attention to details.  If I have to, I will, but for the most part I am a big picture, creative, futuristic type of thinker…I thoroughly enjoy using the right side of my brain. With that being said, when I was leading our pharmacy, I made it a point to surround myself with people who thrived on details…regardless of how much they annoyed me. 🙂

My lack of attention to details was a weakness of mine, and I knew it, but I also knew I had a responsibility to not let that weakness hamper the advancement of our business.

What are your strengths?

What are your weaknesses?

I have a couple of tools I utilize when coaching executives.:

  • One is the StrengthsFinder Test.  This is a great assessment for identifying your strengths.
  • The other tool is a 360 degree leadership assessment (Leadership Circle Profile). The 360 draws input from those who work closest with you and not only helps you to identify your strengths, but more importantly, it brings your weaknesses to the surface.

The most effective leaders work hard to leverage their strengths while neutralizing their weaknesses.

Isaiah 40:29, He gives strength to the weary, and increases the power of the weak.
