You may have heard this story:
There were three workers sitting in front of a building that was under construction. The workers were cutting large pieces of rock with chisels and hammers. Someone approached them and asked them what they were doing. One worker said, “I’m cutting rock,” another worker said, “I’m working so I can make some money,” the third worker said, “I’m building a Cathedral.”
Back in the day, a portion of our teammate orientation at the pharmacy included taking a trip to one of the nursing homes we serviced so the new employees could see the impact of their work.
This was a game-changer for us. Suddenly our team went from being task-driven to being mission-driven. They went from having a job that required them to fill prescriptions to being a part of a mission that provided life-enhancing medications to the most vulnerable of our population–the frail elderly.
People will work twice as hard for a cause than they will for a paycheck…I write from experience.
Colossians 3:23, “Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men,”
