Overthink Nowhere Fast

Overthinking is certain to get you nowhere fast.

Reflection

Many years ago, a mentor of mine said something that hit me square in the noggin, “Try to do everything in moderation because overdoing things will sometimes undo whatever you are trying to do.”

I had always been an “extreme” kind of person. When I was younger, I lived by the mantra, “Too much is not enough.” But, of course, that mantra helped fuel the fire of my addiction disorder and led me down a path of self-destruction.

Now, I attempt to do everything in moderation…most importantly, my thinking.

Back to my mentor’s words and the opening quote…

We all have to think, but what we think about and how much we think makes all the difference, and when we overthink stuff, we shouldn’t even be thinking about, we create run-on sentences like this one in our brain. 🙂

I know some people who put these worthless run-on sentences on “continuous loop” mode, leading to some significant stinking thinking.

If you struggle with overthinking and suffer from stinking thinking, try turning your thoughts over to the Great Moderator–God–as early and as often as you need.

Romans 8:5-6, “For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit. For to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace.”
