Over the next few weeks we will be studying excerpts from my book, “FEAR – PROOF” as we look at how damaging fear can be to the Mental component of our Wheel of Life.
The quicker we get out of “why me?” and into “why not me?”–the quicker we can get out of the problem and into the solution…
The devil loves for us to wallow on the pity pot. Self-pity is the ultimate form of selfishness and is born out of fear.  It often creates a laser focus on self which leads to isolation and in most cases depression which in turn causes us to shut ourselves down from the outside world. The devil loves pity parties.
I can remember years ago visiting my mentor Vic in the nursing home. He was in the final stages of his life as emphysema had pretty much diminished most of his lung capacity. We talked about a lot of things. Vic was a very wise man.
We began to talk about the complainers of the world and how they never get anything done because all they do is complain. Then Vic looked at me and said; “You know when they told me I was in the end stages of emphysema I spent a few days saying ‘why me?’ and then one day I said ‘why not me?’ and in that moment I chose to quit living in the problem and I began to live in the solution.  In that moment I went from being a complainer to being a contributor and that’s what God wants us to be.â€
Do you spend time wallowing on the “why-me?†pity pot?
A great action step to help you get off and stay off the pity pot is to get out of yourself and help someone else…just like Vic did for me while lying on his death bed.
1 Thessalonians 5:18 (NIV), “Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.“
Additional Scripture to read and reflect upon:Â Psalm 51:12, Luke 6:38
What beliefs, thoughts and actions cause you to struggle with self-pity?
