Matter

Life is too short not to do something that matters.

In memory of Brandon Haskins

Every year on this day my blog is dedicated to Brandon Haskins.

Brandon lost his life in a total nonsensical way at the hands of a very disturbed human being on July 8, 2010.

Brandon served as a huge impetus for my first book, “In Search of P.E.A.C.E.”

I had met with him a few months prior to his tragic death. He was a partner at Clay Bridges Publishing and we were discussing the outline for my book.

I dedicated “In Search of P.E.A.C.E.” to Brandon because of something he said to me that mattered:  “Jay, you’re a pretty good writer, you need to write a book.”  I have no idea whether he knew what he was talking about or not, but it didn’t matter, those words inspired me to write and they still inspire me to this day as writing is one of my favorite passions.

When he said those words to me, he was but a youngster in his early twenties…living a life that mattered.

Are you doing something that matters?

You never know when you will take your last breath–but if you are reading this blog–you still have time to do something that matters.

How do you know if you are doing something that matters?

Take an inventory of your daily activity for a week and note the lives you’ve impacted in a positive way. Subtract from that total any and all lives you’ve impacted in a negative way.  If the sum is positive, you’re doing something that matters, if not…life is way too short, get to work.

James 4:14, “Yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring.  What is your life?  for you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes.”
