Materialism

It is preoccupation with possessions, more than anything else that prevents us from living freely and nobly.

— Thoreau —

God at Center-Mental PPTWe continue to reflect on excerpts from my book FEAR-PROOF as we study the Mental component of our Wheel of Life.  As our thoughts go, so goes our life…

“It is preoccupation with possessions, more than anything else that prevents us from living freely and nobly.” ~Thoreau

The devil loves to separate us from God through the use of false idols often coming in the form of possessions and material things.

It’s one thing wasting money you have on things you don’t need, and it is another thing wasting money you don’t have on things you don’t need.

The devil loves to make the rich poor and the poor poorer…he is not selective.

Credit cards have allowed us to purchase what we cannot afford today, pay it off at twice the price in ten to fifteen years and throw our purchase away or quit using it in two years??!!

Why do we buy things we don’t need?  More times than not, it is about filling an empty space in our soul.

God is always there and is always ready, willing and able, but this is an “all-in” proposition.  Being materialistic and following God’s decrees cannot co-exist.

One or the other must take the lead.

Pray for God to fill all of the empty spaces in your life and your need to have “things” will slowly go away.

I write from experience.

1 John 2:15 (NIV), “Do not love the world or anything in the world.  If anyone loves the world, the love the Father is not in him.

Additional Scripture to read and reflect upon:  Hebrews 13:5, 1 John 2:16-17, 1 Timothy 6:9-10

What beliefs, thoughts and actions cause you to struggle with materialism?
