Love and Disciple Regardless of Your Beliefs

Your beliefs become your thoughts, your thoughts become your words, your words become your actions, your actions become your habits, your habits become your values, and your values become your destiny.

Reflection

Our country is, once again, going through a challenging time.

I turned the news on for one minute yesterday and had to turn it off. In those sixty seconds, two people were interviewed. One said they believed the recent Supreme Court ruling about abortion would lead to the abolishment of birth control, mixed racial marriage, and same-sex marriage. The other interviewee said he believed abortion was murder, plain and simple.

Both people shared their beliefs, and I respect them for having a passion for their beliefs.

Right now people’s beliefs about pro-life or pro-choice are creating divisiveness in our country and the devil is loving it.

I have beliefs.

You have beliefs.

My beliefs will most likely not change your beliefs.

Your beliefs will most likely not change my beliefs.

Here is one of my beliefs:

I believe there is a point where our beliefs intersect, and the name of that intersection is Love.

As Christ-followers, we are called to love God and our neighbors above all else, regardless of our beliefs.

In this turbulent time, choose Love over hate, anger, and division, no matter what you believe.

Simply stated, choose Jesus over the enemy.

Love is patient; Love is kind. It does not envy; it does not boast; it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, is not self-seeking, is not easily angered, and keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, trusts, hopes, and perseveres.”(1Corinthians13:4-7)

Here are a couple more of my beliefs:

As a Christ-follower, I believe I am called to make disciples of others.

A key piece of disciplining is bringing others to Jesus so a personal relationship can be formed and Jesus can begin working with them on their beliefs.

I believe the best way to bring others to Jesus is by loving on them and not hating, shaming, or guilting them.

Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, (Matthew 28:19)

And by the way, Jesus is still guiding me in helping me get my beliefs aligned with his beliefs.
