Reflection
The opening quote caught my attention as I saw its relevance when thinking about COVID-19 and how it indirectly affected thousands of people’s minds these past two years. Studies indicate that there have been spikes in mental illness and substance abuse disorders since the pandemic’s inception.
Facts
Fear due to uncertainty can cause many problems.
First off, it robs us of our peace.
But, even worse, if left unattended, it can lead to depression and anxiety.
The devil pounces on an uncertain mind like a cat on a mouse.
Some things I do to keep the fear of uncertainty in check:
Have a daily routine
Avoid people, places, and things (i.e., 24/7 news) that accelerate my fears
Eat right, sleep right, and exercise right
Communicate with family members and friends
Help someone in need–we have a built-in “needer” in Jordan 🙂
Look for God’s beauty in simple things like sunrises, sunsets, flowers, birds, and quiet moments
And the most important–Pray one more time than I worry
Joshua 1:9, “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”
Journal your thoughts:
What “unknowns” do I need to turn over to God?
What am I grateful for today?
In what way(s) will I bring light to the world today?
What will I deny myself so I may draw closer to God and gain more peace in my life today?
Prayer:
God, I offer myself to Thee—To build with me and to do with me as Thou wilt. Relieve me of the bondage of self, that I may better do Thy will. Take away my difficulties that victory over them may bear witness to those I would help of Thy Power, Thy Love, and Thy Way of life. May I do Thy will always! Amen.
