Reflection
The opening quote came to mind recently after working with a group planning to do an intervention on someone immersed in the hopeless world of alcoholism.
Most would think that an addiction disorder is whipped by willpower, while those of us who’ve whipped it know that is not true.
Recovery requires the willingness to rely on a Higher Power (faith), do the next right thing (obedience), and stay the course regardless of what life throws your way (grit).
Much like Jesus during Holy Week.
Holy Week presses us to reflect deeply—not just on what Jesus endured physically but also on the mental toughness it took to stay the course.
On Tuesday, Jesus was challenged, questioned, and plotted against. He knew betrayal was near, yet He kept the faith, remained obedient, and remained focused, steady, and unshaken—i.e., divine grit.
WHAT A ROLE MODEL!!!
Mental toughness isn’t about pretending the pressure doesn’t exist. It’s about anchoring your mind to God’s truth when everything else screams chaos.
The enemy wants your thoughts scattered and your emotions reactive, but Christ calls us to keep our minds stayed on Him.
When life feels like a battlefield, remember that Jesus didn’t back down. He pressed forward with faith, obedience, and grit.
Isaiah 26:3, “You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you.” —Isaiah 26:3 (NIV)
Thought for the Day: Mental toughness isn’t willpower—it’s surrendering your thoughts to the One who never breaks.
