Lent Mindset Day 31 – Serenity is a MIndset

You can’t calm the storm, so stop trying. What you can do is calm yourself. The storm will pass...

Reflection

When we can overcome the urge to control other people, places, things, and situations, we have so much to gain.

A gift that was given to me in early recovery was the Serenity Prayer:

“God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
the courage to change the things I can,
and the wisdom to know the difference.”

The Serenity Prayer isn’t just a wise saying—it’s a daily roadmap for peace and purpose.

We all wrestle with things beyond our control: people’s opinions, the past, and even tomorrow. But serenity comes when we stop trying to fix everything and start trusting God to be God. That kind of surrender isn’t weakness—it’s a form of spiritual strength.

At the same time, faith doesn’t make us passive. God calls us to take bold steps of obedience. Courage to change the things we can might mean having a tough conversation, breaking an old habit, or simply showing up when it’s easier to quit.

And then there’s the wisdom to know the difference. That kind of discernment only comes from walking closely with God—listening, learning, and leaning into His Word. It’s not always evident in the moment, but peace comes from trusting the One who sees the whole picture.

Thought for the Day: When faced with a situation outside your control, change your perspective, surrender it to God, and move on.

Proverbs 3:5- 6,Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”
