Lent Day 1 – Mindset

Your mindset shapes your reality. A positive and growth-focused mind turns obstacles into opportunities, setbacks into lessons, and dreams into achievements.

Today marks the beginning of Lent, a season of repentance, renewal, and transformation for Christians.

In the coming days, I will focus on our mindset and how a healthy mindset can make life less challenging to navigate.

Nearly 40 years ago, my battle with addiction totally corrupted my mindset. I went from an upbeat “can do” mindset to an “I can’t handle life, I don’t like me, and I need to escape” mindset.

My only hope was to have a spiritual awakening by turning everything, including my thoughts, over to God daily and sometimes minute-by-minute. I also had to protect myself from people, places, things, and situations that tried to infiltrate my mind with negative thoughts…I’m not sure how I would have handled social media back in those days, as it can be a mind corruptor if we aren’t careful.

Eventually, I experienced Romans 12:2 firsthand.

Romans 12:2“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.”

Whenever my thoughts go sideways, I turn them over to God…sometimes this happens more than I want. 🙂

Reflection: Lent is a season of transformation. Begin by setting your intention to renew your mindset and align your thoughts with God’s purpose, not the world’s.
