Horrible

…was the entry in my journal describing my swim drill a few days ago.

But then it dawned on me that I had not been in the pool for a couple of weeks and if there is one leg in my triathlon training that suffers the most from not practicing, it is the swim portion.

Then I thought about the importance of practice in all key aspects of life, especially our spiritual component.

Time with our creator is the most important “practice” of our day.

Do it and the daily drill seems a little bit easier to take on.

Don’t do it and there will be a good chance you will feel like I felt after I swam for the first time in a couple of weeks.

Practice doesn’t necessarily make perfect but it does make progress and progress is much better than the alternative.

If you are wondering what you need to practice, take a moment to list your responsibilities, roles and priorities and then note the areas you are feeling “horrible” with.  I have the following responsibilities noted in the front of my journal and they are listed in order of priority:  Spiritual condition, Mental condition, Physical being, Husband, Dad, Son, Brother, Other Family, Leader, Friend.  In order to become good at any of these, it takes practice but I can tell you the practice seems to be a bit smoother when I have my priorities straight and tap into my spiritual source on a daily or more often basis…and of course that is my number one priority.

What is your number one priority?

How often do you feel horrible?
