Proverbs 11:14 (Holman CSB) “Without guidance, people fall, but with many counselors there is deliverance.”
Today’s Proverb jumped out at me as I just celebrated my 23rd anniversary of sobriety on August the 9th.Â
I always tell people that nothing great in life happens by doing it alone. I also know first hand that conquering the disease of addiction and alcoholism a day at a time will not happen by doing it alone.
Back on August 9, 1987 I finally started to listen to others and since that time nothing has been the same. I don’t care what you are trying to accomplish, overcome, deal with or conquer; assuming that you are praying and reading the word, seeking wise counsel for guidance is the next most important step. “The way of a fool seems right to him, but a wise man listens to advice.” Proverbs 12:15 (NIV)
“When I was younger, so much younger than today, I never needed anybody’s help in any way, but now those days are gone and I’m not so self-assured, now I find I’ve changed my mind and opened up the doors.” The Beatles “Help”
If you are beating your head against the wall and not making any progress…(Can you say insanity?)…try reaching out for help and when you reach for help seek help from those who’ve conquered whatever it is you are trying to conquer and has what you want to have in life.

Jay, right on time…last night during our Overcomers 12-Step on Xenia Ave, we were discussing the 4th Step and one o the group said he had worked the 4th step, but only gave it to God, that was good enough. The group shared with him the importance of exposing his sin from his own head, into the light of day. That sharing with another person would give him freedom rather that keeping it locked up inside his own head. Liked your use of the Beatles. With your permission, I’d like to copy the 8/11 Blog and use it when we start the 6th Step.
Hey David, no problem with using this blog however you need it. Take care and keep fighting the good fight.
