HabitFast Journey-Day 8-Progress over Perfection

If breaking a habit has been hard for you to do, hard for you even to face, then a helping hand is in order.

— Kenneth Schwarz —

HABITToday is the DAY you begin starving an old habit and/or creating new productive habits.

A couple of thoughts:

1.  Don’t feel as though you need to be perfect during this journey.  If a slip up turns into a set up for an even better HabitFast Journey, don’t throw in the towel.  The ultimate measure of whether or not you’ve starved a habit or you are about to starve a habit is to look back from day 47 (April 5th) and note whether or not the habit you intended to starve is still a major part of your life or not.  I suggest you seek progress over perfection on this journey.  The same holds true for those of you who are trying to develop a new habit during this journey.

2.  There are some habits that are impossible to break on our own.  Sometimes habits turn into addictions…been there, done that and don’t want to go back.  If you are one of those people who can curb a bad habit for a few days but always seem to relapse, you may benefit from a friend, associate, mentor or even a counselor who will assist you with your HabitFast Journey.  The biggest problem with trying to make personal change all by ourselves is–we usually get bad advice.

PROVERBS 15:22, “Plans fail for lack of counsel, but with many advisers they succeed.”  (NIV)

HabitFast Journey Action Steps:

1.  Start the day:  Review and reflect on your HabitFast Plan, your Negative Triggers and your 3 action steps for the day.  Journal any thoughts and pictures that come to mind, and then prayerfully turn your plan, Negative Triggers and action steps over to God.   This is also a good time to read scripture from the Bible.  There are 31 Proverbs and I have found reading the Proverb that corresponds to the day of the month is a great way to listen to God.

2.  Continue the day:  Every time an unproductive thought or craving pops up in your head; PRAY for God to take it away.  God wants you to succeed. (Jeremiah 29:11-13)

3.  End of day evaluation:  Review, reflect and journal your progress and give yourself a grade/score for the day.

4.  End of day planning:  After grading your day, review and reflect on your HabitFast Plan and then write 3 action steps in your journal under tomorrow’s date (please note: in some cases your daily action steps may be the same as the day before).

5.  End of day prayer:  Prayerfully turn your HabitFast Plan, Negative Triggers and 3 action steps for the next day over to God just prior to retiring for the day.  Also, thank Him in advance for giving you the desire and strength to continue to make positive change in your life tomorrow.

Stay focused.  You WILL succeed!
