Remarkable Blessings

Want to be blessed? Do something remarkable for someone and don't tell a single soul.

— JMeyer —

I have a few pet peeves but one of my biggest involves people doing a “Christ-like” deed and posting it all over social media.

When we do something for another person and tell people about it–we are really doing it for ourselves– which is bassackwards when reading Jesus’ words in Matthew 6:1-4:

“Beware of practicing your righteousness before other people in order to be seen by them, for then you will have no reward from your Father who is in heaven. “Thus, when you give to the needy, sound no trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may be praised by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.”

Do we really need to publicize the work we do for the needy?

Do we really need to publicize our mission work?

Do we really need to publicize baptisms?

I have a friend who has been on more mission trips in the past five years than I have fingers and toes to count. Only his closest friends and God know about the incredible work he does.

What part of, “And your Father who sees in secret will reward you,” are Christians missing out on?

End of rant.
