Reflection
In the early days of our lean years—after my addiction had bankrupted every part of my life—I was terrified. I didn’t know where the next dollar would come from. We had a house payment, car payments, and responsibilities that didn’t pause just because my life had fallen apart. Fear was a constant companion.
Then came November—gratitude month in the AA rooms. That year, I attended more than thirty meetings during gratitude month, and the message was the same everywhere I went: “Turn your fears over to God, and find things to be grateful for.” I heard it again and again until it finally sank in.
As I surrendered—truly surrendered—I began to see what I still had rather than obsessing over what I’d lost.
Gratitude slowly shifted my mindset from panic to peace, from white-knuckling life to letting go and letting God.
Lessons learned from that period in my life…
- Provision isn’t having everything you want—it’s receiving everything you need.
- Gratitude recognizes God as the Source, not the job, not the paycheck, not the market. Every good thing flows from Him.
- When gratitude steps in, scarcity loses its grip, fear loosens its hold, and joy finds room to breathe again.
Soul Search:
- Where have you seen God provide recently?
“And my God will meet all your needs.” — Philippians 4:19 (NIV)
