Gratitude and Being Alive

We can only be said to be alive in those moments when our hearts are conscious of our treasures.

— Thornton Wilder —

Reflection

The other day I took a walk in the woods with our dogs.

The fallen leaves created a soft golden path.

Radiance from the sunlight touched areas it had not reached since early spring.

The brook’s dry bed revealed secrets I could not see during the rainy season of spring.

Squirrels scampered about as they were in final preparation for the winter.

In the distance was a whitetail, wondering if I was a friend or foe.

I could go on and on and on and on.

Back to the first sentence of this writing…

Some people take a walk in the woods with their dogs…boom…end of story.

I walk my dogs in the woods to appreciate the hidden treasures God has put in place for me to find.

Back to the opening quote.

Is your heart conscious of your treasures and the treasures surrounding you?

Treasure is always awaiting us when we are looking for it.

Psalm 23:2-3, “He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.”
