Gratitude and Happy Heart

The heart that gives thanks is a happy one, for we cannot feel thankful and unhappy at the same time.

— Douglas Wood —

A couple of days ago I reached out to an old friend to see how he was doing.

He’s been in remission from Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma for a few years and then a couple of years ago he barely escaped death while having open-heart surgery.

His response really amazed me as he said he was, “doing alright, all things considered.” He then noted that he’s been laid off since April as the industry he was in was has been decimated by the COVID pandemic.

He ended his text to me with, “All that–we still have a great deal to be thankful for each day.”

I need to note that this particular friend is one who always seemed to be upbeat and in a good mood regardless of what was going on.

I think I know why.

How’s your heart?

Is it thankful?

Our happiness is directly proportionate to how thankful we are.

Psalm 51:10, “Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.”
