Grateful for Our Vets

Our flag does not fly because the wind moves it...it flies with the last breath of each soldier who died protecting it.

During my childhood, I was often awakened by the words “Rise and shine,” which bellowed from dad’s mouth. “Rise and shine” was one of many military-related sayings that my dad used in communicating with my brother and me.

These sayings were simply a part of our normal.

I was raised by parents who had a deep respect for the great military men and women of our country. My dad served in the Army while his dad and my mom’s dad served in the Navy.

Today is Veteran’s Day.

If you get a chance–thank a Vet, for without them you would most likely not be reading this message in the comfort of freedom and safety.

As I reflect upon my dad’s early morning call to my brother and me–I can’t help but ask…

What are you “rising” for each day?

Are you rising to shine?

Are you rising to simply get through another day?

Sometimes a thankful heart coupled with faith in God is all it takes to go from survival mode to shine mode…I write from experience.

Isaiah 60:1, “Arise, shine; for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord has risen upon you.”
