What’s Important?

When you focus on what is important, it's a lot more difficult to be distracted.

— JMeyer —

Have you ever taken the time to write down what is important to you?

I have a list of Imperatives that I review at the beginning and end of each day. When I review them at the beginning of the day, I gain focus on what is important. When I review them at the end of the day I assess how focused my day was.

Here are my Imperatives:

  1. My spiritual, mental and physical health
  2. My wife
  3. My children and grandchildren
  4. Other family members
  5. Creative space
  6. Those I serve professionally
  7. Friends
  8. Recovery community

Imperatives 1 through 4 are in order of importance. Imperatives 5 through 8 are interchangeable based upon what I am doing that particular day.

What’s important to you? What are your Imperatives?

Do the activities of your daily life reflect your Imperatives?

Matthew 6:33, “But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.”

Heavenly Father, I know what is important to me. Please give me the desire and ability to live my life reflective of my Life Imperatives. Please give me the ability to recognize and say ‘No,’ to people, places, and things which do not support my Imperatives. It’s in Your Son’s name I pray. Amen.
