Falling Forward – Day 8 – Power in Release

Some of us think holding on makes us strong, but sometimes it is letting go.

— Hermann Hesse —

Reflection

As fall settles in, my walks through our woods become more frequent, especially now with our new puppy, Coco.

Yesterday, I noticed the path I carved through the woods years ago was disappearing beneath a blanket of fallen leaves. This was not apparent to me two days earlier as I walked the same route.

It struck me: trees don’t chase their leaves. They simply let them go.

We aren’t nearly as good at that.

We cling to control, expectations, possessions, relationships, positions, plans, and sometimes things God has clearly told us to release.

Why?

Because letting go feels like losing.

But surrender isn’t always about loss. Sometimes it’s about making room for what comes next.

The trees seem to understand something we often forget: there are seasons for holding on and seasons for letting go.

And perhaps that’s one of fall’s greatest lessons…open hands can receive what clenched fists never will.

Soul Search

What am I gripping tightly because I’m afraid of what might happen if I let go?

“Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.”
