Falling Forward – Day 4 – Moving On

There are far, far better things ahead than any we leave behind.

— C.S. Lewis —

Reflection

Lewis’s quote reminds me of how easy it is to live looking backward; spending more energy trying to recreate yesterday than discovering what God has for us tomorrow.

That was me several years ago.

After walking away from a 30-year career in which I helped build one of the most respected nursing home pharmacies in the country, I found myself conflicted. God was pulling me toward something new, but part of me was still holding tightly to what had been.

In 2018, I stepped back into pharmacy for a brief period, perhaps hoping to recapture some of what I had left behind. Instead, the experience gave me clarity: that chapter was over. God wasn’t calling me back. He was calling me forward.

Sometimes we have to quit trying to recreate yesterday so we can fully embrace what God is creating next.

God’s next chapter doesn’t erase the previous one.

It builds upon it.

Honor yesterday.

Then turn the page.

Soul Search

Is there something good from my past that I’ve been trying too hard to keep alive?

“See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?”
— Isaiah 43:19
