Falling Forward – Day 25 – Do It While You Can

You are never too old to set another goal or to dream a new dream.

Reflection

We’ve been experiencing some of the most beautiful autumn weather I can remember.

Each year, I set a goal to close out the cycling season with one long bike ride. This year, I decided to ride my age in miles. No easy chore for an old-timer like me. 🙂

Yesterday seemed like the perfect day. The weather was magnificent, the autumn colors were spectacular, and I was feeling pretty good.

Lately, I’ve been living by a simple mantra:

“Do it while you can.”

In many ways, I realize I’m in the autumn of my life. In sports lingo, I’m early in the fourth quarter.

But here’s what I’m discovering: The fourth quarter can be life’s most meaningful quarter.

Yesterday’s ride along the Great Miami River Corridor, from Piqua to Dayton and back, was a beautiful reminder of that.

Surrounded by God’s magnificent creation, I was reminded that autumn isn’t just a season of endings. It’s a season of beauty, gratitude, and opportunity.

We don’t know how many seasons we have left. But we do know we have today.

So take the ride. Make the call. Chase the dream. Love a little deeper. Serve a little more.

Don’t wait until you can’t to wish you had.

This autumn has engraved four words on my heart:

Do it while you can.

I think I will.

Life is a gift, time is precious, and we should make the most of every season God gives us.

Soul Search

What have I been putting off that God has given me the opportunity and ability to do today?

“Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.” — Psalm 90:12 (NIV)
