Reflection
Resentment feels like we’re holding someone accountable.
Usually we’re just holding ourselves hostage.
We replay the offense.
Rehearse the argument.
Imagine what we should have said.
And the other person may be sleeping just fine.
I used to struggle with resentments, but once I realized how toxic they were to the body, mind, and spirit, I had to find a way to let them go, and the best way for me was to pray for the person I was holding the resentment toward and pray for God to give me the willingness to forgive whoever or whatever I was resenting.
Forgiveness doesn’t declare what happened acceptable.
It declares that what happened will no longer control us.
BTW…the person we’re setting free through forgiveness is ourselves.
