Faith Over Fear – Day 41 – Look Up

A proud man is always looking down on things and people, and, of course, as long as you are looking down, you cannot see something that is above you.

— C.S. Lewis —

Reflection

In my downward spiral with addiction, I wouldn’t ask for help; I saw it as weakness.

In truth, it was pride…driven by fear of being exposed.

Fact

Pride has destroyed more lives through addiction than we can count.

I’ve also seen the pride C.S. Lewis describes—looking down on others while missing what’s above. It wrecks relationships and blinds leaders who get drunk on success, forgetting both God and the people who helped them rise.

Confidence is healthy.

Pride is not.

The moment we think we’re above others—or too strong to ask for help—is the moment we begin to fall.

When we humble ourselves before God, our weakness becomes strength.

I always write from experience.

Where is pride causing you problems in your life?

2 Corinthians 12:9-10 (NIV), “But he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness. Therefore, I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.  That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.”
