Faith Over Fear – Day 28 – Fear of Pain

They must take pains to look for any gain.

— Unknown —

I googled the quote “No pain, no gain” to find who first coined the phrase. Google didn’t know, but I did find that the quote I used was an original version of “No pain, no gain” from the 16th century… if you believe the internet.

Reflection

After a fairly long hiatus from running, due to a knee injury, I’m almost back to where I was four months ago.

For those of you who are younger than me—you heard it here first—once you cross 50, it is much easier for your body to get out of shape than for it to get in shape.

The reason I am back is that I’ve purposely set up running intervals at speeds that hurt…or at least my body tells me it’s going to hurt…but I don’t listen.

The anticipation of pain or the discomfort associated with pain is one of fear’s favorite tools.

It convinces us that discomfort is danger and avoidance is wisdom.
