Reflection
Not long ago, I was helping an organization shape its mission statement. One concern kept surfacing: “We need to be very careful with our words because we don’t want to offend anyone.” I agreed to a point—words matter. But it also felt as though they were tempted to soften or sidestep the truth of who they were in order to fit the spirit of the times. The tension centered on their faith in Jesus.
Fear of speaking openly about our faith has become very real in today’s world. At its core is often the fear of offending someone or being misunderstood.
I never once witnessed Jesus being worried about offending anyone or being misunderstood.
Do not let the political correctness of the world replace the truth that comes from your Father.

Where might the fear of being misunderstood be causing me to soften or avoid speaking the truth with love?
Galatians 1:10, “Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ.”
