Failing Forward

Proverbs 24:16, “The godly may trip seven times, but they will get up again”

A few weeks ago I was giving my testimony to an adult Sunday school class and when I was finished I was fielding some questions.  One person asked me how I handled failure in my life.  I told her “failure is a part of life but it is your choice which way you fail.  You can either fail backward or fail forward.”  The class seemed a little shocked as I could tell they had never heard that phrase before.

Failure is a huge part of the success equation.  If we let it bother us and paralyze us, success will be hard to attain, if we learn from it and choose to allow it to motivate us we will never fail…even if we’ve lost.  The great professional football coach, Vince Lombardi once said; “my teams never lost, we simply ran out of time.”

How we view failure, challenges and defeats in our life will determine what type of life we live.  In a little over a half a decade on this earth, there is one thing I will guarantee you and that is you will face challenges and experience a fair share of failure.

It is your choice whether or not you fail forward or backward.
