FACING FEAR DAY 18 – Toughness > Fear

God’s toughest drills produce His most trusted warriors.

— JMeyer —

Reflection

I’ll never forget my fear before my first college basketball practice. Coach Gale Daugherty, a disciple of Bobby Knight, was known for toughness—mental and physical. Word was, the early practices were designed to weed out the weak.

And they were.

But I made it.

The five years I played for Coach helped forge me into the man I am today. Yesterday, several dozen of us gathered to celebrate his 87th birthday. What united us? We had all survived his “toughness drills”—and were better men for it.

God sometimes trains us the same way. His drills may not be comfortable, but they are always purposeful.

Soul Search

What challenge are you currently facing that could be part of God’s “toughness drill”? Are you resisting it or embracing it as a refining process?

“Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance.” – James 1:2-3 (NIV)
