“God proved His love on the Cross. When Christ hung, and bled, and died, it was God saying to the world, ‘I love you.'” ~Billy Graham
Our church (Ginghamsburg Church) had an amazing Easter celebration last weekend. I have to believe nobody throws a better party for Jesus than we do…of course I’m biased.
With that being said, I must admit I had a stitch in my side last Sunday evening as my 56th Easter here on earth was winding down. The stitch came from the thought of wondering how many people left their church on Easter Sunday, more in awe of the show than being in awe with what Jesus went through for us?
You may have noticed I said “their church” as it seems as though Easter is viewed as a huge marketing opportunity to get people in the church. I make this statement based on all the “Easter Celebration” signs I saw posted in front of churches in every community I passed through in the weeks leading up to Easter. If the marketing push is all about transforming lives, through Jesus’ death and resurrection-I’m in. If it’s about putting butts in pews or putting on a good show for those in attendance-I’m out.
Now onto something I can control…
I took this thought to an even deeper level and asked myself the same question in a total personal light. Is my daily life reflective of worship of my God sending His Son to pay the price for my sins or is it simply a show…a wor-show? This is a question all of us must ask and answer on a daily basis. A real Jesus follower lives the events of Easter weekend (death to self and resurrection through Christ) on a daily basis.
With that being said, I guess I can’t worry about what churches are up to as I have enough to handle with my own walk.
How about you?
Romans 12:1-2, “Therefore, I urge you, brother in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God–this is your spiritual act of worship. Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is–his good, pleasing and perfect will.”
