Dream and Fly

Hold fast to dreams for if dreams die
Life is a broken-winged bird,
That cannot fly.

โ€” Langston Hughes โ€”

I ran across the opening quote yesterday morning.

It’s so true.

The ability to imagine and dream is refreshment for the soul.

Taking action and chasing the dream is energy for the spirit.

For years, Lori has dreamed about buying or renting a camper and traveling the U.S. with Jordy and me.

Jordy loves to travel and is always up for a good adventure and the older I get the more I have a desire to see as much of our great country as possible.

An added plus to this dream is it would add fresh material to our creative toolboxes. Lori loves to take pictures and paint, while I enjoy writing about life.

PLUS–with COVID-19 most likely hanging around for several more months we would be making lemonade out of the lemons created by social distancing.

Lori’s dream would create a win-win-win for the three of us.

With all of that being said I feel the need to let you know that up to this point in my life the closest I’ve come to camping is when we’ve stayed in motels with no inside hallways. ๐Ÿ™‚

Back to reality.

This past year has sucked.

No, I mean it has literally tried to suck the energy out of our family.

I’m not going to bore you again with all the challenges we’ve encountered because life is life, but the sudden passing of Lori’s mother almost seemed like a slap in the face to wake us out of the trance we had unconsciously fallen into.

Hence, back to the opening quote.

We had unknowingly become a couple of broken-winged birds.

Then, out of nowhere, Lori began researching RVs, travel trailers, and motor homes. In two days she and Jordan have already been inside a half dozen travel homes.

I called a friend of mine who’s traveled the U.S. with his family for years in a fifth-wheel RV. He gave me some very valuable insight into the dos and don’ts of travel trailer adventures.

I began picturing myself backing up a thirty-foot travel trailer into a forty-foot space.

Will I look like an idiot?

Probably.

I then pictured Walmart parking lots being my new best friend as I am sure to miss a turn or two during our travels in our “Little Home on Wheels.”

Then my brain really lit up as I began “seeing” all the cool experiences our travel would provide us…hence, some fresh writing material.

My point?

My wife’s dream got us out of our funk.

It’s now our dream.

You all will know when it becomes a reality because I usually try to write from my personal experiences.

The world is a crazy place right now.

No matter how crazy it gets, it can never steal your ability to imagine and dream.

Keep dreaming and striving to make your dream(s) a reality.

It’s better than sitting around in a funk…I write from experience.

Habbakuk 2:2, “And the Lord answered me: โ€œWrite the vision; make it plain on tablets, so he may run who reads it.”
