Dogs and Heart Expansion

Dogs come into our lives to teach us about love, they depart to teach us about loss. A new dog never replaces an old dog. It merely expands the heart.

Reflection

A few days ago, we said goodbye to Jetta, our faithful German Shepard who led, directed, and herded anything that moved.

She was a brilliant dog that would occasionally act like an idiot.

I can relate.

Ever loyal, loving, and protective.

Ever patient around Jordy and the granddaughters.

She was one of a kind.

She taught me about love and, most recently, taught me about loss.

Most importantly, she expanded my heart.

Ezekiel 36:26, “And I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you. And I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh.”

Thanks, Jetta.

I am so sorry for this loss. Our vet came yesterday to give our sweet German Shepherd a shot for his “aches and pains.” At 10, she commented, “He’s showing his age.” And I am sad… just thinking about that day. That “ache and pain” is too familiar, though we keep choosing to love and lose every time. (The love far out-weighs the loss, great though it is.) Praying for your family as you go through this sad season. If want to read a good book that brings hope, John Eldredge’s “All Things New” is it!
