“Every man makes a god of his own desire.â€Â ~Virgil
As we continue on our trek of creating a focused, life-purpose in 2015, the third ingredient we will be looking at is desire.
In order for any positive change to take place in our life we must have a desire to make it happen.
My inability to get off of drugs and alcohol was not because I couldn’t stop, it was because I couldn’t stay stopped and until I had a desire to stay stopped, I didn’t stay stopped…make sense?
Desire often comes about through pain, knowledge or reward. For example, I finally stayed sober because the pain of my final “bottom†got my attention. I exercise because I reap the rewards of extra energy and peace of mind after doing it. I work hard at my trade because I know all hard work brings a profit.
What do you desire? What is it you really want to do? What do you know you need to do but can’t seem to do?
The quote by Virgil above serves as a great reminder when dealing with desire. Although we need desire to make positive change we need to make sure what we desire does not become our god.
The best way to prevent your desires from becoming your god is by turning your desires over to God first thing in the morning and again when you lay your head down to rest at night.
A God- included-desire will whip a Jay-only-desire every day of the week…I write from experience.
Desire of the world and its provisions will always disappoint. Desire of a relationship with God and His provisions will never disappoint.
Read and reflect on the Psalm below.
