December Boom and Prayer and Motorhomes

Is prayer your steering wheel or your spare tire?

— Corrie ten Boom —

A few weeks ago, the tips of my fingers grew numb, while my spirit was overwhelmed with impatience, as I tried for the umpteenth hundred time to screw the drain plug of our motorhome’s hot water heater back in place.

Then I heard Lori’s voice behind me say, “Joyce Meyer says it’s OK to pray for help in times like this.” So I sarcastically asked God to help me get this stupid cap threaded, and voila, it worked!

This moment in time was our first run at winterizing our motorhome by ourselves. This first run created multiple opportunities to seek God’s help in detaching, attaching, screwing, and unscrewing various pipes and lines throughout the unit.

And, when we sought His help,

He.

Delivered.

Every.

Single.

Time.

When frustrated with the various nuances of life, why don’t we immediately turn our steering wheel over to God?

In fact, why aren’t His hands already on our steering wheel in the first place?

Why do we choose to use God as a “spare” even though we know He is the Creator of all things and lives inside of us?

The longer I live, the more I realize prayer is the difference between living in anxiety or living in peace…especially when embarking upon the maiden voyage of winterizing a motorhome.

Psalm 37:4-5, “Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him, and he will act.”

Matthew 6:33, “But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.”
