December Boom and His Will

Don't bother to give God instructions, just report for duty.

— Corrie ten Boom —

Reflection

When I saw the opening quote, it made me think of the people who lament that they do not believe God is answering their prayers.

Instead of “showing up for duty,” they request for God to “show up for duty.”

Questions

What if prayer isn’t only about us and our desires?

What if it is about Him and his desires for us and the people we impact?

Solution

Many years ago, while I was an infant in my faith journey, my AA sponsor told me the only prayer I needed to pray was, “God, I pray for the knowledge of your will for me and the power to carry it out.”

Although my prayers have gotten much longer over the years, I always begin them with the words noted above.

It helps me show up for duty.

It helps me show up with a desire to please Him instead of a desire for Him to please me.

Ephesians 5:17, “Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is.”

Matthew 6:10, “Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.”
