December Boom and Trust

You can never learn that Christ is all you need until Christ is all you have.

— Corrie ten Boom —

A few years ago, I focused my December writings on quotes from Corrie ten Boom.

I’ve decided to do that once again in 2021.

Corrie ten Boom was a Dutch Christian who helped hundreds of Jews escape from the Nazis during the Holocaust.

She, along with her father and other family members, hid the Jews in their home.

Eventually, they were caught and sent to a concentration camp.

Corrie’s faith and desire to help others flourished in that camp regardless of the horrendous conditions. It’s been noted that at the end of each grueling day of labor, she and her sister, Betsie, would hold secret worship services using a Bible they had smuggled into the camp.

It was in that camp where Corrie and Betsie helped convert many of the prisoners to Christianity.

For me, December marks the arrival of Jesus.

Jesus’s birth, death, and resurrection give us so much but nothing more than a True God to trust and believe in, even in the darkest of times–as Corrie ten Boom’s life represents.

When I saw the opening quote, I thought about my life’s darkest moment when my addiction had drained me of my desire to live.

But–and this is a Big But…although addiction had stripped me of everything, it never took Jesus from me.

He was there in that darkest of dark night, and luckily I asked for His help.

Don’t ever think that your life is too screwed up for Jesus to straighten out.

I always write from experience.

2 Corinthians 5:7, “For we walk by faith, not by sight.”
