Debt

A man in debt is so far a slave.

— Ralph Waldo Emerson —

Today we conclude our discussion on the financial component of our Wheel of Life by taking a look at a four letter word the devil loves for us to struggle with…DEBT.

“A man in debt is so far a slave.”  ~Ralph Waldo Emerson

“Some debts are fun when you are acquiring them, but none are fun when you set about retiring them.”  ~Ogden NashWheel of Life God at Center-Financial PPT

Thomas Fuller once said, “debt is the worst poverty.”  I so agree with Mr. Fuller.

There are thousands of quotes about debt and none of them have a pleasant ring to them.

By the end of this year U.S. citizens are projected to surpass 1 trillion dollars in credit card debt.  That’s 1,000,000,000,000 a “1” with twelve zeroes after it.  Our great country is 19 trillion dollars in debt.

As a nation and as individuals, we continue to buy things with money we don’t have.

Nuff said.

Luke 14:28, “For which of you, desiring to build a tower, does not first sit down and count the cost, whether he has enough to complete it?”  (ESV)

Luke 16:10, “One who is faithful in a very little is also faithful in much,”  (ESV)

Romans 13:8, “Owe no one anything, except to love each other,  for the one who loves another has fulfilled the law.”  (ESV)

  1. The key to staying out of debt is simple:  Spend less money than you make.
  2. The key to getting out of debt is simple:  Don’t spend money on anything you do not need until your debt is wiped clean.

Debt used to drive me crazy being out of debt drives me free.

I’ll take free over crazy any day of the week.
