“When boasting ends, there dignity begins.” ~Owen D. Young
Boasting, bragging and conceit are behaviors born out of fear. For some reason the boaster fears inferior and feels the need to elevate himself by telling everyone about his accomplishments. The biggest harm for the boaster is he not only comes across as a fool to others, but he usually misses out on the beauties and blessings of life because he or she is focused on letting the world know how great he or she is. The devil loves it when we are inwardly focused.
I am certain when it is all said and done God will not care how much money we have, how big our house is, what type of car we drive, how successful our professional career was, how much we know, how many degrees we’ve earned and how many awards we’ve accumulated over the years. I have a feeling God simply wants to know how many people we’ve helped.
If you find yourself a little bit too much “into” yourself pray, picture, plan and practice humility…after all the meek will inherit the earth (Matthew 5:5)…a thought the devil cannot stand.
