Daily focalPOINT – Belief Relief

“Your life is a print-out of your thoughts.”  ~Steve Maraboli

Years ago when I was trying to learn how to stay sober a day at a time, someone in a 12 Step Meeting stated, “Us alcoholics have  a thinking problem, not a drinking problem.”  Those of us who’ve been to the depths of hell because of our addictions and have been blessed with the opportunity to regain our lives know the path to the new way of living is created by changing our thinking.

But to go a step further, our thoughts are a product of our beliefs.  For example I believed for many years I could not have “fun” without a beer in my hand.  Today I know this is a lie because I just had the time of my life at my son and daughter-in-law’s wedding reception without sniffing a drop of alcohol.

There were many other beliefs that I found were lies as I began to change my life.

I’m sure you’ve heard the saying, “change your thinking and you will change your life.”  This is so true, but I am here to tell you it is almost impossible to permanently change your thinking without going to the core of your thoughts and see what beliefs create the thoughts.

There are many ways to change your beliefs and your thinking, but the most effective way for me was by forming a relationship with Christ and reading and absorbing his words on a daily basis.  The apostle Paul also became a mentor of mine years ago as I could totally relate to the 180 degree change that Christ created in his life.

If you are constantly miserable, acting out, and letting outside forces (i.e. people, places and things) affect your serenity.  Step back and try to detect the beliefs that are causing you to think the way you think.

…get some relief by challenging stupid beliefs…
