Daily focalPOINT – Finger Pointing

“The real leader has no need to lead-he is content to point the way.”  ~Henry Miller

I enjoy observing people in positions of leadership.  One thing I have noticed over the years is there are a lot more positions of leadership in the world than there are real leaders to fill those positions.  If this was not the case we probably wouldn’t have the term “Peter Principle.”

I’ve observed “The Peter Principle” overtake organizations over the years where an organization continues to promote someone just “because,” and he or she is eventually promoted to his or her level of incompetency.

One characteristic of a true leader is someone who has an uncanny ability of simply “knowing” the right direction to point.  For the most part these leaders have spent a significant amount of blood, sweat and tears figuring out which direction to point their finger.

As I’ve said before; leading is about doing the right thing while managing is about doing things right.  Leading is simply figuring out which direction to point as that is the most important step in the success formula.

Believe it or not we are all called to lead as the most important leadership role we are in is the role involving the leading of our own lives.  If you are interested in growing your personal leadership skills with Christ at the center, please join us this Thursday evening at my barn for our “3rd Thursday Leadership Meeting.”  People show up around 6:30pm, the meeting begins at 6:45pm and we’ll be done no later than 7:45pm.  Shoot me an email if you are interested in joining us.

Which direction is your life pointed today?
