“You must be specific if you want to be terrific,” is one of my favorite quotes as I recall first seeing it almost 30 years ago while reading a book written by sales guru Tom Hopkins.
I thought of this quote the other day during a good bike ride while listening to Zig Ziglar’s most recent audiobook “Born to Win.”
“You cannot make it as a wondering generality. You must become a meaningful specific.” is what Ziglar says in “Born to Win.”
Do you find yourself wondering from job to job, new idea to new idea or just sitting in a pile of fear-filled procrastination?
If you do and you are sick and tired of it, take a pencil and paper and go to a place that takes you to a reflective state and write on that piece of paper what you want to do with your life.
This is the beginning of becoming a meaningful specific.
Then set a goal date for when you will become whatever it says you want to become on your piece of paper and then create the path from today to that goal by writing down one thing you will need to do daily, weekly and/or monthly in order to achieve the goal.
Make sure your dream is in touch with reality and your current personal roles and responsibilities as I’ve witnessed a fair share of people climb the professional ladder to success while leaving their personal and family life in a shambles down below.
A plan is the bridge that turns your dream into reality.
