Pity and Turning Wrists*

“Pity is adrenalin for acts of mercy; self pity is a narcotic that leaves its addicts wasted and derelict.”  ~Eugene H. Peterson

Sitting on the pity pot and feeling sorry for one’s self is a place the devil loves to take us.  Signs on the Restrooms that contain “Pity Pots” should not display “MEN” or “WOMEN” but “SELFISH CHILDREN.”

At the core of those who live their lives feeling sorry for themselves and wanting others to know “just how bad it is” is a selfish little child…remember I write from experience.

A great defense for this senseless act is to create a gratitude list of all the things you have to be grateful for and if you don’t have anything to be grateful for, look around you and make a list of all the people who have it worse off than you do…and take it a step further…lift these people up in prayer.

The difference between hands that are taking from the world and hands that are giving back to the world is a simple turn of our wrists.
