“Contemplation often makes life miserable. We should act more, think less, and stop watching ourselves live.” ~Nicolas Chamfort
“I feel sorrow for the person who thinks this life on earth is all there is. Even if it is and somehow I got it wrong; living in anticipation of eternity with Jesus has made me a better man and helped me live a much better life.” ~Yours Truly
I’ve found myself in a reflective mood the past couple of days due to a freak accident taking yet another one of our friends from the small community (pop. 2,500) I live in. We’ve now lost three local “brothers” to freak accidents over the past few weeks and at least a dozen or so brothers and sisters we all knew and loved dating back to early 2009.
Times like this cause me to reflect and do an inventory of what is going on in my life. I’m not so worried about my bucket list of things I want to do for me, but I know I have some things I would like to do for the world. Honestly, although I don’t want to, if I die tomorrow I have no regrets. I’ve given my all to God, my family and my fellow man. I hold no grudges or resentments and although I regret some stupid stuff I did in my past it all played a role in making me the person I am today.
How about you? Are you prepared to die? Are there some things you need to “tidy” up before your final day? Have you sought forgiveness and forgiven others? Have you stopped thinking and contemplating about “what if’s” and instead acted?
BUT…more importantly…if this is your final day do you know where you are going?
Death is either a final destination or simply a step in the process of eternal life…it all depends on where you are with Jesus.
