“First say to yourself what you would be; and then do what you have to do.” ~Epictetus
Last week a young man I am mentoring was picking my brain on leadership.
We talked for an extended period of time as I gave him every last bit of wisdom (knowledge with experience attached to it) about leadership I could give him, but at the end of the conversation I told him; “great leadership is an ever-evolving process, you set the bar where you see yourself needing to get to and then you go for it by behaving yourself into it a day at a time.”
I then shared with him the most important step in becoming a great leader: Leading your own life. It is impossible to effectively lead others if you are unable to have the discipline to lead yourself.
How are you leading…yourself these days?
