Daily focalPOINT – Hearts

“Carve your name on hearts, not tombstones.  A legacy is etched into the minds of others and strories they share about you.”  ~Shannon Alder

A couple days ago I was heading home from an annual golf outing put on by my friend Bob McCurdy.  For 15 years Bob has directed and guided the Ohio Northern University-Pharmacy Alumni, Golf Outing.  This outing is a way for the Pharmacy College to raise money in order to help offset the costs for students striving to become Doctors of Pharmacy…not a cheap proposition these days.

Anyway, as I was heading home I thought of Bob and what he has done for our University with little or no fanfare.  He has quietly raised hundreds of thousands of dollars with his golf outing and has helped thousands of Pharmacy students over the years in his role as an assistant to the Dean.  Bob retired last year but is still very connected to the College of  Pharmacy.  In the years I’ve known Bob I can tell you what he does or what he has done has never been about Bob.  He is representative of the quote above.

Bob will not need a tombstone in order to remind the world what he did while he was here.

There are those who make their way to the top without having a conscious of the hearts they’ve broken in order to get there; and there are those who make their way to the top without even trying…simple by pouring into and changing one heart at a time.

Thanks for all you do Bob!

Take a look at your life.  Are you changing hearts or are you oblivious to the hearts around you because you are so focused on your own?

Philippians 2:3-4, “Don’t be selfish; don’t live to make a good impression on others.  Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourself.  Don’t think only about your own affairs, but be interested in others, too, and what they are doing.”
