Daily focalPOINT – Breakdown

“One of the symptoms of an approaching nervous breakdown is the belief that one’s work is terribly important.”  ~Bertrand Russell

After yesterday’s blog I thought I would add a little balance to the work/life ration.

Whenever I start thinking my work is too important, I pull out the book of Ecclesiastes and read it and re-ground myself.

Ecclesiastes 2:22-23, “What do people get for all the toil and anxious striving with which they labor under the sun?  All their days their work is grief and pain; even at night their minds do not rest.  This too is meaningless.”

Ecclesiastes 12:13, “Now all has been heard; here is the conclusion of the matter:  Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the (duty) of every human being.”

In other words, keep the main thing the main thing and if you don’t know what the main thing is–create a priority list and see where your work lands.  If it is number one…you are headed for a breakdown…I write from experience.
