Today is Good Friday.
Around two thousand years ago, on this day, Jesus died a horrible death on the cross only to be resurrected three days later so that we could be relieved of the heavy burdens associated with sin and gain entry to the afterlife.
Two thousand years ago man met the King of King’s in person, but could not overcome their image of what a King/God was supposed to act like.
Jesus never fit the image.
As I noted yesterday, just hours prior to His unjust death, instead of snapping His fingers and saving His life, which He could have done–He was giving his disciples a lesson about servanthood and love.
How could such a humble and loving person be a King or a God?
Man had it all messed up…Jesus wasn’t the type of King they were looking for.
The good news is God was using Good Friday as a setback for a setup for a comeback (Easter) like no other.
The bad news is not everybody understands the gift that Good Friday and Easter offers us.
In yesterday’s blog, I wrote about all the good that I am observing as a result of this pandemic.
But let’s be honest, there is also a lot of bad going on as well.
Whenever God amps up His love through His people you can bet the devil is going to fight twice as hard in spreading his fear.
There are lots of people who don’t know God the way you and I do and are fighting through this firestorm called COVID-19 on sheer will power.
Eventually, self-will loses its power…been there, done that, and have the chemical dependency t-shirt to prove it.
Good Friday is a time for prayer and reflection.
What do you say that we commit to taking some time between the period of 12 pm and 3 pm today (symbolic of the period when Jesus took His last breath on this day 2000 years ago) to pray for those…
Who have little to no belief in God.
Who think that depending on God shows weakness.
Whose unbelief is clouding their ability to believe.
Who needs their hearts softened so they will understand God is a God…
Who is always with them and meets them right in the middle of their mess.
Who believes in them when they are unable to believe in themselves.
Who loves them when they are unable to love themselves.
Who turns a rock bottom into a sturdy foundation for an amazing life.
…I gratefully write all of the above from personal experience.
As we remember this very dark and gloomy day that took place thousands of years ago, let’s commit to making this a REALLY GOOD Good Friday for someone who is need of a boost from a power greater than them.
And if you need prayer for yourself please email me and I will be lifting you up between 12 and 3 today.
John 1:5, “The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.”
Luke 19:10, “For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.â€
Journal your thoughts:
What am I grateful for today?
In what way(s) will I bring light to the world today?
What will I deny myself so I may draw closer to God and gain more peace in my life today?
Prayer:
God, I offer myself to Thee—To build with me and to do with me as Thou wilt. Relieve me of the bondage of self, that I may better do Thy will. Take away my difficulties that victory over them may bear witness to those I would help of Thy Power, Thy Love, and Thy Way of life. May I do Thy will always! Amen.
