Crushing Fear – Day 29 – Distractions

You can't do big things if you are distracted by small things.

— Unknown —

Fact

The devil loves to distract us.

Distractions cause us to go off course, or for some people, to never have a course.

Question

Why is our world so easily distracted?

Many of us suffer from FOMO (fear of missing out). And if we aren’t careful, our fear of missing out will become an addiction where we escape our life by living in the imaginary world called social media.

Solution

There is so much noise going on around us…if we choose to listen to it.

What distracts you?

What gets in your way of treating time like the valuable asset it is?

Do you realize you have a choice on whether or not you want to be focused or distracted?

I’ve developed a few daily disciplines to help me stay focused:

  • I go to bed early (10ish), and just before falling asleep, I thank God for the day and turn tomorrow over to Him. (The start of a perfect day begins the night before.)
  • I get up early–early enough to have thirty to forty-five minutes with God and an hour of vigorous exercise.
    • The time I spend with God involves scripture reading, listening, and prayer–which includes a review of my plan for the day and it over to Him.
    • Vigorous exercise is the best way to calm my mind right out of the gate in the morning.
  • I talk with God throughout the day, and when I get distracted, I ask Him to get me back on course.

This works great as long as I work it.

Romans 12:2, “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.”  (ESV)

Reflection:

What beliefs, thoughts, and actions cause you to struggle with distractions?

Additional Scripture to read and reflect upon:  Philippians 3:12-14, Matthew 24:13, Proverbs 16:3
