A Look-Back
I’ve learned so many lessons from my addiction recovery journey, but none more than the ability to live in the present.
I can remember, during early recovery, being overwhelmed with the thought of not being able to drink or drug again.
Then someone told me, “Just don’t drink or drug today.”
I listened, and subsequently I’ve not drunk or drugged for the last 12,992 days.
I’ve also been living in the present for the majority of those days…a great place to be, especially during the trying times of the last few years.
Solution
The solution to conquering “future angst” includes some critical nuggets of “living in the present” wisdom that I’ve carried with me ever since I got sober:
- Don’t project!
- Don’t expect!
- Don’t assume!
- Don’t worry!
Reflection
Do you suffer from anxiety due to “future angst?”
If so, try putting the kibosh to projecting, expecting, assuming, and worrying…it works.
